El presidente de la comisión de Transportes de la Asociación Chilena de Municipalidades, Gustavo Hasbún, denunció el inminente peligro que revestirá para más de 2,5 millones de personas la eventual aprobación de la Conama a la empresa Ferrocarril del Pacífico para trasladar ácido sulfúrico entre las regiones de Valparaíso y Bio-Bio.
Junto con el concejal Hugo Gutiérrez y vecinos, el también alcalde de Estación Central dijo que el paso diario de más de una tonelada y media de la sustancia constituye un peligro real para 42 comunas del país, debido al deficitario estado de las vías férreas.
Entre la Fundición Chagras, en la Quinta Región, y el complejo forestal Nueva Aldea, en la zona penquista, perfectamente se podría producir un descarrilamiento y derramamiento de esta letal carga, fundamentó el jefe edilicio.
“Hay que dejar en claro que cualquier accidente de esta naturaleza traería horrorosas consecuencias para la comunidad y el medio ambiente por tratarse de un material altamente tóxico”, agregó.
El alcalde anunció que se reunirá con el resto de los 41 ediles de las comunas que están en riesgo con la finalidad de realizar acciones concretas contra el traslado férreo de la carga.
"Es inaceptable que por privilegiar criterios económicos pongan en riesgo la vida de millones de chilenos. Las vías férreas del país no están en condiciones de soportar este tipo de cargas. Cualquier accidente en su traslado generaría un daño cuantioso para la vida y el medio ambiente", expresó.
